WHAT IS SILVER AGE YOGA COMMUNITY OUTREACH?
HEALTHY AGING WITH YOGA™
Silver Age Yoga Community Outreach is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), charitable organization, founded in 2003 with the goal of:
improving the lives of economically disadvantaged seniors
by providing health enhancing yoga practices at no cost to them
Silver Age Yoga recruits already certified yoga teachers and trains them through an intensive certification course as to how to teach yoga to seniors. In exchange for a partial rebate of the tuition fee for a special skills-providing certification course, they agree to teach a certain number of free yoga classes to seniors as part of their community service (Seva).
Senior Yoga Class
Silver Age Yoga teachers acquire special yoga teaching skills, based on principles of geriatric science, applicable to any segment of the senior population.
Silver Age Yoga has trained and graduated over 100 teachers. They are teaching at over 20 senior centers, most of them in the San Diego County area, providing free yoga classes to over several hundred seniors each week. Silver Age Yoga has provided over 4,000 free yoga classes to needy seniors in the last three years.
Silver Age Yoga's program is widely recognized by the community as well as the media. Teacher-training programs steadily continue to satisfy the growing demand for our service (many senior centers are on our waiting list).
