Welcoming New Stewards to the Silver Age Yoga Community
As winter softens and the first signs of spring begin to appear, nature quietly reminds us of one of yoga’s most enduring teachings: renewal. In yogic philosophy, each new season invites us to reflect on how we can grow, contribute, and live with deeper purpose. Spring is not only a time of renewal in nature – it is also a time when our community blossoms through service, connection, and leadership.
Seva: The Yogic Path of Service
In the yoga tradition, the concept of seva – selfless service – is considered a powerful spiritual practice. Seva is the act of offering one’s time, skills, and heart in support of others, without expectation of personal gain. Through service, we recognize the deeper truth of yoga: that we are all interconnected.
For nearly two decades, SAYCO has embodied this principle by bringing accessible yoga and wellness programs to older adults across San Diego County. Through free and donation-based classes, our teachers create welcoming spaces where seniors can build strength, improve balance, reduce isolation, and reconnect with their sense of vitality.
Behind these classes is a small but deeply committed group of volunteers – our Board of Directors – who help guide the organization’s mission and ensure that SAYCO continues to grow and serve our community.
Why Board Service Matters
A nonprofit board plays an essential role in sustaining a mission-driven organization. Board members help provide:
- Strategic guidance and long-term vision
- Community outreach and partnership development
- Fundraising and financial stewardship
- Advocacy for healthy aging and accessible wellness programs
Just as yoga teaches us that strength and flexibility develop through practice, nonprofit organizations thrive through the collective wisdom and dedication of engaged leaders.
As SAYCO continues expanding its reach to more senior centers, libraries, and community spaces, we are seeking thoughtful individuals who feel called to support this work.
Who We’re Looking For
Board members do not need to be yoga teachers or experts in yoga philosophy. What matters most is a shared belief that movement, mindfulness, and community connection should be accessible to everyone – especially older adults.
We welcome individuals who bring:
- Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or community engagement
- Professional skills in areas such as finance, marketing, legal, or program development
- Passion for healthy aging, wellness, and social connection
- A collaborative spirit and commitment to service
Serving on the SAYCO board is an opportunity to contribute your talents in meaningful ways while helping create programs that positively impact hundreds of seniors each year.
Interested in Serving?
As we welcome the renewal of spring, Silver Age Yoga Community Outreach (SAYCO) is inviting individuals who feel inspired by the spirit of service to consider joining our Board of Directors.
